Ozone sensor: Monitor water in critical processes
With the growing use of water sanitizing processes using ozone treatment, Mettler Toledo Thornton has released a new dissolved ozone sensor family for monitoring water for pharmaceutical and semiconductor applications. The new sensors interface with the Thornton M300 transmitter platform that includes conductivity/resistivity, dissolved oxygen, flowrate, pH, ORP and temperature measurements.
The company says the M300 transmitter is positioned to be the first choice for applications in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, power, and ultrapure water treatment industries. Procedures for these industries include application-specific high-purity temperature compensation of conductivity and pH, pharmaceutical water set points for USP, EP and JP requirements, and include power industry computations of pH and CO2 from conductivity measurements.
The ozone sensor reportedly provides reliable and accurate response and requires only infrequent, simple maintenance. It provides stable measurements both in normal ozonation ranges and near zero, after ozone destruction.

Annual Salary Survey
After almost a decade of uncertainty, the confidence of plant floor managers is soaring. Even with a number of challenges and while implementing new technologies, there is a renewed sense of optimism among plant managers about their business and their future.
The respondents to the 2014 Plant Engineering Salary Survey come from throughout the U.S. and serve a variety of industries, but they are uniform in their optimism about manufacturing. This year’s survey found 79% consider manufacturing a secure career. That’s up from 75% in 2013 and significantly higher than the 63% figure when Plant Engineering first started asking that question a decade ago.
