Nominate a plant for smart use of HART communications technology
Nominations are now open for the 2009 HART Plant of the Year End Users Award from HART Communication Foundation for exceptional application of HART technology. Benefits are cited in links to prior winners.
Austin, TX – End users are invited to enter their company’s application of the HART Communication Protocol for recognition in the 8th annual HART Plant of the Year Award Program. Presented by the HART Communication Foundation , the HART Plant of the Year is said to be the only international award presented to end user companies to recognize the exceptional application of HART technology. Nomination forms for HART Plant of the Year are available from HCF and will be accepted through May 31, 2009.

“We are seeking the plant that has taken the capabilities of HART instruments beyond configuration and calibration, or one that is using real-time diagnostics and process variables in their HART-enabled devices integrated with their control, information, asset management and safety systems,” says Ron Helson, HCF executive director. “This is the opportunity for end users to share their success and tell the world how HART technology has helped lower their operating cost and increased plant availability.”
Selection is based on a plant’s use of HART communication, not on the size of the installation. End users can nominate themselves or suppliers can recommend a plant for recognition. Nomination forms and details are available at www.hartcomm.org .
The HART Communication Foundation describes itself as an "international, not-for-profit, membership organization supported by more than 200 companies worldwide. Founded in 1993, the Foundation is the technology owner, standards setting body, and central authority on the HART Protocol and provides global support for application of the HART technology. The Foundation establishes and controls the HART Communication standards including new developments and technology enhancements that benefit and support the needs of the industry. The HART Communication Protocol is the leading communication technology for intelligent process measurement and control field devices and systems with more than 26 million devices installed worldwide."

Annual Salary Survey
Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
