Need more info on OEE? Foundation Fieldbus? Lean manufacturing? ISA-95? You've come to the right place...
By Plant Engineering Staff
A series of white papers now available will give manufacturers a variety of insights into strategies ranging from OEE to nozzle efficiency to Lean manufacturing and technologies ranging from closed cell spray technology to Foundation Fieldbus to ISA-95.
Spraying Systems : Achieving precision coating with minimal waste by using pulse width modulated flow control is the topic of a white paper from Spraying Systems Co.
Honeywell : With energy costs projected to spiral higher in the coming years, improperly insulated buildings allow more that heat to escape. There is also money leaking through your roof if you haven’t done everything to maintain a sealed building envelope. This latest white paper from Honeywell reviews breakthrough technology to seal and insulate commercial buildings through the use of closed cell spray polyurethane.
NASA: A white paper from NASA discusses how existing analog strain gauge transducers and signal conditioners were replaced with Foundation Fieldbus transmitters in the DCS at the NASA Glenn Research Center.
Activplant: he enterprise. Management needs to pinpoint the specific areas for improvement that will generate the most immediate returns.
Aberdeen Research : Following Plant Engineering’s March cover story on Lean, Aberdeen has released the survey results from more than 300 manufacturers and service companies to identify the specific strategies for manufacturers to deploy at every stage along the Lean journey. These strategies characterize best practices in extending the Lean enterprise, managing Lean expertise and education within an organization, managing performance across operations and effectively leveraging technology. The deployment of these best practices should be leveraged when implementing and extending Lean within your organization.
MESA : The ISA-95/MESA Best Practices Book 1.0 explains how the ISA-95 Enterprise-Control Integration Standard, is applied to lower total cost of ownership of manufacturing operations management systems and their enterprise and plant interfaces. By using ISA-95 methodology and technical applications, the total cost of ownership for manufacturing IT architectures, as well as manufacturing and supply chain operational costs, are dramatically reduced.

2012 Salary Survey
In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.
Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
