Rittal’s Mobile Design Center, a 36-ft bus full of 5,000 lb of Rittal technologies, was parked inside the Pack Expo Las Vegas 2011 booth last week, taking about half its area. Among new Rittal offerings is the Rittal Comfort Panel, engineered to accommodate the latest generation of HMI operator panels with a slim-line design to match the Rittal support arm systems.
Products inside the traveling exhibit include wallmount enclosures (AE, KS, CM, WM, EB, JB, KL, PK, slope top, push button), climate control products (air/air and air/water heat exchangers, UL Type 12 & Type 4X Air Conditioners, filter fans, thermoelectric coolers), TS8 Modular Enclosures (carbon and stainless steel freestanding, floormount, disconnect, and networking), HMI products (CP-C, CP-L, CP-S & CP-XL support arms, Command Panel, Compact Panel, Optipanel, and TopConsole), and power distribution products (Ri4Power and RiLine60).
The walk-through mobile showroom weighs 26,000 lb fully loaded.
Rittal Comfort Panel
Building on the Rittal Command Panel operator control/keyboard housing, Rittal is ramping up production of its new Comfort Panel line. The Rittal Comfort Panel is said to be engineered to accommodate the latest generation of HMI operator panels with a slim-line design to match the Rittal support arm systems. Comfort Panel is ergonomically designed and user-friendly with many options, including integrated handle sets, document holders, and mouse pad support. Standard sizes and custom configurations are available.
It has lightweight, aluminum construction with a soft profile to minimize risk of injury. Cooling fins can be added to quickly dissipate heat from electronic components, and the units can be equipped with additional cooling elements. Comfort Panel units can be configured to meet any size operator panel and provide IP 65/ NEMA 12 protection ratings.
The Comfort Panel adds installation flexibility, Rittal said, because it is available with one-piece, screwed or hinged front and rear panels. Optional keyboard housing is vertically hinged via a frame connection and can be retrofit to previous models. Hinges are on the outside so the front can be readily removed for service. Design options are available for custom application. It is available with four support arm systems.
Nine standard sizes are available for order, with standard width of 520 mm with three height and depth options, with the goal of providing an off-the-shelf solution for most customer applications. When custom configuration is necessary, the eight-digit configuration code may be used.

2012 Salary Survey
In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.
Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
