Tel-Tru temperature sensors for hazardous areasTel-Tru Manufacturing Company, supplier of temperature and pressure instrumentation, has expanded its line of RTD (resistance temperature device) probe assemblies and temperature transmitters. Intrinsically safe models are now available for sanitary and industrial applications.

The company says its new models ISPAA3 and INPAA3 are cCSAus Intrinsically Safe certified to Class I, Div. 1, Groups A, B, C, and D when used with approved zener barrier systems. The assemblies include a thin-film PT100 platinum RTD sensing element, packaged in an all welded 316L stainless steel probe. Probes are available in .187 and .250 in. diameters with a choice of lengths ranging up to 12 in.

Standard probe assemblies include threaded process connections and may be used with a separately purchased thermowell. Sanitary probe configurations are also available featuring Tri-Clover fittings and surface finishes that comply with 3A Standard 74-03 for food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing applications.

General purpose connection heads are offered in either die-cast aluminum or 316 stainless steel.  An FDA approved polypropylene head for sanitary applications is also available. Output formats include 4-20 mA, HART, Profibus, and Foundation Fieldbus. Overall range capability is –60 to 500 °F, which can be scaled in the field or at the factory.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
