Gary Greenberger joined Vela Systems , Burlington, Mass., as vice president of sales. Greenberger has more than 25 years of experience in technology sales.

Schreder Lighting USA , Chicago, announced that JRC Inc. Sales Agency will represent the complete Schreder Lighting line throughout Utah. The manufacturer also announced that Rise & Shine Lighting Sales Agency will represent Schreder Lighting in Las Vegas.

Johnson Controls , Milwaukee, received the U.S. Dept. of Commerce Export Achievement Award. Johnson Controls was honored with the award at the International District Energy Assn.'s Campus Energy Conference held Feb. 13 in Boston. The award recognizes Johnson Controls' successes in use of the Commerce Department's exporting services to win district cooling contracts in the Middle East. Johnson Controls recently signed a contract to supply Qatar Cool with 52 water-cooled chiller units. Johnson Controls also signed a contract to supply Burj Dubai, the largest district cooling plant in the Burj Dubai development, with 24 chiller units.

Schneider Electric North America , Palatine, Ill., announced a $500,000 contribution to become a platinum level sponsor of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the National Fire Protection Assn. Arc Flash Collaborative Research Project .

CECO Environmental Corp ., New York City, agreed to acquire Fisher-Klosterman Inc. , Louisville, Ky., in a transaction involving cash and stock.

Niagara Blower Co., Buffalo, N.Y., acquired the assets of Kathabar, Somerset, New Jersey, from Ross Air Systems. The new subsidiary will be called Kathabar Dehumidification Systems Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

WAGO Corp ., Germantown, Wis., completed the expansion of its North American headquarters. The expansion began in August 2007 and increased WAGO's product manufacturing and storage capacity from 60,000 sq. ft to 75,000 sq. ft.

Christopher Verone has been promoted to Western territory sales manager at W.A.C. Lighting , City of Industry, Calif. Verone has 25 years of sales experience.

Emerson Network Power , Columbus, Ohio, announced that it acquired 100% of Aperature's shared capital. Financial terms were not disclosed. The addition of Aperture to Emerson Network Power's portfolio will complement and enhance the manufacturer's Liebert products.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
