Danfoss , Baltimore, celebrated its 75thanniversary this year. The company marked the milestone with a series of employee celebrations in North America and abroad. The company was founded in 1933 by engineer Mads Clausen. Mark MacCracken , president and CEO of Calmac Manufacturing Corp ., New York City, has been named the Energy Engineer of the Year by the New York Chapter of the Assn. of Energy Engineers. The award annually is presented to a member who demonstrates accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles, and procedures of energy engineering with a conviction and commitment to foster sound energy policies. MacCracken has served Calmac Manufacturing for more than 30 years and is the principal investigator on research projects with Oak Ridge National Labs, NASA, and the Solar Energy Research Institute. Eric Hardesty has been appointed sales engineer at Schreder Lighting USA , Chicago. Fire-Lite Alarms , part of Honeywell’s Life Safety Group, Northford, Conn., announced that David Pakech joined the company as vice president of sales. Robin Hurst , senior vice president for Power Deliver at Alabama Power, Birmingham, Ala., received the IEEE Power and Energy Society’s Leadership in Power award. The annual award is given to industry leaders for their contributions to the promotion of the electric power engineering profession. Hurst created an engineer-in-training program at Alabama Power in 1993 and more than 200 engineers have gone through the program. Kevin Kasmiskie has been named regional sales manager at LDPI Lighting , Eau Claire, Wis. Kasmiskie has more than 30 years of experience in sales and manage for lighting industry manufacturers and distributors. Johnson Controls , Milwaukee, installed sustainable buildings solutions in 18 Olympic stadiums and supporting facilities, helping the Beijing Olympics become the most green Olympics. Solutions include centrifugal chillers and a chiller plant automation system in the National Stadium, centrifugal chillers in the National Indoor Stadium, and E-Switch , Brooklyn Park, Minn., appointed Master Distributors , Santa Monica, Calif., as an authorized distributor. Under the partnership, Master Distributors will offer E-Switch’s entire line of switches, which include Rocker, Toggle, Slide, Tact, Pushbutton, and Dip Switches.

Annual Salary Survey

After almost a decade of uncertainty, the confidence of plant floor managers is soaring. Even with a number of challenges and while implementing new technologies, there is a renewed sense of optimism among plant managers about their business and their future.

The respondents to the 2014 Plant Engineering Salary Survey come from throughout the U.S. and serve a variety of industries, but they are uniform in their optimism about manufacturing. This year’s survey found 79% consider manufacturing a secure career. That’s up from 75% in 2013 and significantly higher than the 63% figure when Plant Engineering first started asking that question a decade ago.
