Siemens AG will reorganize its Industry Division in 2011 to expand its software business and better focus its service and vertical market emphasis, the company said at a Hannover Messe press conference.

Dr. Siegfried Russwurm, CEO of Siemens Industry worldwide, said the reorganization would take effect Oct. 1. He also said the company would expand in the sector through a combination of organic growth and acquisition. The segment is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5% through 2016, as the global manufacturing slump has turned around.

“With our new structure, we intend to offer our bundled expertise from a clearly defined organization,” Russwurm said. “We have sharpened our profile.”

Russwurm said the real and digital aspects of manufacturing are converging, bringing production and product lifecycle management into a single structure, connected and interdependent. The software needed to drive this convergence will play the most critical role in how and how fast the segment grows. He noted there are already a number of Siemens success story where PLM software was shortening the time to market for product innovations.
