Global Wind Day creates awareness in alternative energy
The Global Wind Energy Council has declared June 15 Global Wind Day in an effort to increase awareness of wind energy across the globe.
The GWEC's main objective of the day is to convince political leaders worldwide that wind power is a viable energy source, and that countries can lower their power costs while simultaneously helping the environment. According to the Council, using wind energy can save over 10 billion tons of C02 while providing up to 12% of the world's power by 2020.
In April, President Barack Obama endorsed a bill that would supply nearly $150 billion in spending over the next 10 years on renewable energy in the United States. That money would go towards construction of products such as wind turbines and solar panels, though the plan is still awaiting Congressional approval.
Global Wind Day, which is being recognized worldwide in 30 countries, is a descendant of European Wind Day, which was celebrated in 2007 and 2008

Annual Salary Survey
In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.
Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
