Make system upgrades and expansions easier and facilitate data communication between genset components with the PowerCommand generator set controls from Cummins Power Generation. The controls are available in three configurations and all configurations include a main control board and human machine interface (HMI). The PowerCommand 1 has standard features and is intended for single generator set applications. The PowerCommand 2 has enhanced features for single generator set control both in critical and non-critical applications. The PowerCommand 3 is a premium-featured systems for digital paralleling control with a utility and with generator sets from different manufacturers.
The HMI provides intuitive generator set operations for all generator functions, including metering, configuration, and fault diagnostics. It includes backlit graphics on an LCD display, plug and play operations, and dedicated manual/off/auto function switches with mode LEDs and configurable access codes. Each control may be changed to upgrade or expand the power generation system, including moving from a single generator system to a paralleling system.
The control systems are available in selected generator sets now and will be phased into the full line throughout the year.

Annual Salary Survey
In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.
Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
