Fujitsu markets wireless module products in North America

Fujitsu Components America Inc. says the move expands component portfolio for wireless device original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Fujitsu Components America Inc. announced that it is marketing a diverse range of wireless modules in North America to address core OEM design needs as the market for wireless mobile devices, portable media devices and industrial equipment steadily increases.

Fujitsu says it brings innovation from many years of industry-leading multi-chip module design and production experience, resulting in smaller wireless module package sizes that consume less power than competing products.

Fujitsu's initial product offering includes the following semi-standard devices (see also diagram, above):

- Bluetooth Class 1 / Class 2 in module form, a module with integrated antenna, and a full module with integrated antenna and connector interface;
- Ethernet 802.11 b/g module, b/g/n module;
- Ethernet / Bluetooth combination (802.11b/g + Bluetooth) module; and
- Global Positioning System (GPS) module.
Examples of primary applications for these modules include vehicle tracking and navigation, industrial handheld terminals, smart phones, personal media devices, digital audio/visual devices, portable medical devices, e-books and netbooks, with many more emerging.

Also included in Fujitsu's initial offering is an array of services for embedded wireless and wired networking products, including driver development, software support and porting services.

Fujitsu plans to continue to expand its wireless module line to meet new market demands. Currently under development are Ethernet a/b/g, and a/b/g/n modules, the company says.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
