Dust launches wireless sensor networking research program
Research innovation program is designed to encourage continued development of wireless sensor network applications.
Wireless sensor networking systems provider Dust Networks announced the Dust Networks Research Innovation program designed to foster continued innovation of WSN applications in the academic and research community. The Research Innovation program also provides access to the Dust Networks Research support community, which provides a forum for sharing of information, ideas, best practices and practical development and deployment solutions for a broad range of WSN applications, which include energy management, environmental and infrastructure monitoring, patient activity monitoring, hospital asset management and many others. Part of the program is its SmartMesh-XT research development kit, which is available in 900-MHz and 2.4-GHz versions, and is designed for universities and research institutions interested in developing new applications based on WSN technology. The technology uses Time Synchronized Mesh Protocol (TSMP), which enables all nodes in the wireless mesh network to be battery powered and opens up new application possibilities. Software APIs are provided to simplify the development of sensor interfaces and allow developers to focus on application development instead of wireless network technology development.

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
