Ductless air conditioners, heat pumps
Johnson Controls’ Coleman ductless air conditioners and heat pumps deliver heating and cooling to structures without ductwork.
Johnson Controls’ Coleman ductless air conditioners and heat pumps are a space-saving solution that delivers heating and cooling to structures without ductwork. Commercial applications also benefit, especially computer server rooms where temperatures must be maintained. The systems combine smaller outdoor units and attractive, slim wall-mounted indoor units, linked by a conduit that requires nothing more than a small 3- to 4-in. opening. Single-zone mini-splits provide individualized comfort in a single room, while multi-zone models connect a single outdoor unit to as many as five indoor units, providing comfort in larger areas. In addition, occupants can set temperature and humidity levels for each unit in each room, saving energy and ensuring comfort. The mini-splits use a cold blow prevention feature that slightly delays the indoor fan at the start of a cycle to make sure the air comes out warm to keep room occupants comfortable.

Annual Salary Survey
After almost a decade of uncertainty, the confidence of plant floor managers is soaring. Even with a number of challenges and while implementing new technologies, there is a renewed sense of optimism among plant managers about their business and their future.
The respondents to the 2014 Plant Engineering Salary Survey come from throughout the U.S. and serve a variety of industries, but they are uniform in their optimism about manufacturing. This year’s survey found 79% consider manufacturing a secure career. That’s up from 75% in 2013 and significantly higher than the 63% figure when Plant Engineering first started asking that question a decade ago.
