ISO 9000 practitioners work within a dynamic enterprise that fosters a myriad pattern of standards and their interpretation. This book presents a set of design rules that clarifies a broad range of these perspectives -- both for those who wish to create an effective quality management system (QMS) and those who audit these operations.
The book is divided into six sections.
Section 1 establishes the overall structure of an effective QMS and the Quality Manual central to this exercise. The need for strong organizational leadership is emphasized.
Section 2 presents the key components of an effective QMS in terms of the ISO 9000 global mandatory requirements. There are 320 "shalls" that must be addressed.
Section 3 deals with the top-down structure of the QMS and the possible methods for document format and linkage. The section creates the framework for effective quality policy statements.
Section 4 considers QMS style and format. Matters of perspective, detail, and affective QMS presentation are considered.
Section 5 blends all of the tools and summarizes their use in the creation of a fully compliant and strategically business oriented QMS.
Section 6 contains a case study that describes the certification of an example company using the design tools presented in the earlier sections.

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
