GR05 - Energy Modeling for Energy Hogs: La Salle Bank/Bank of America: Targeting beyond LEED EB Gold
Through the development of a detailed energy model post LEED EB certification we have identified certain areas of improvement to the Energy Optimization Credits of LEED EB O and M. The Energy model is the basis of how a LEED EB Building that achieved a Gold Certification is still "an energy hog" but ultimately can show much greater energy improvements and energy saving through the energy modeling process.

YL07 - Fostering a Community of Environmental Stewards by Using Real-Time Display of Building Performance Data
This session will explore ways in which real-time display of the environmental performance of buildings can be used to engage, educate, motivate and empower building occupants to become better environmental stewards. The efficacy of various modes of real-time resource-use feedback, including web sites, kiosk displays and newly developed energy orb technology will be considered. Research conducted at Oberlin College and projects completed using Lucid Design Group’s Building Dashboard will be used to illustrate how flows and cycles of matter and energy through buildings can be translated into a form that fosters positive community identity and action focused on environmental stewardship.

PL09 - Green Buildings as if Energy Mattered: Field Data from New Technologies
Advanced monitoring, HVAC and lighting systems and products developed by the California Energy Commission’s PIER Program and California electric utilities are creating new opportunities for owners of new and existing buildings seeking to improve their energy efficiency and carbon footprint. Field data and case studies from over 50 demonstration sites have generated a wealth of application data on new commercial products and systems that save 25% to 70% above standard green practices. The attendees will learn about actual field performance, cost, energy savings, and lessons learned that show them how to cost-effectively integrate these new technologies into their green projects.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
