Compact temperature controllers

This compact temperature controller family features universal temperature sensor inputs, an informative display that can show alarm or change of status without a separate HMI and a 1/32 DIN panel face with short mounting depth.

The E5GN compact temperature controller family has beenenhanced with increased indication accuracy and faster sampling rate. TheE5GN-T model accepts universal temperature sensor inputs (thermocouples andplatinum RTDs). The E5GN-L is an added series that accepts analog inputs tosupport process control applications.

The enhanced controllers feature a large easy-to-readcolor-change display, which can optionally be configured to alternate betweenshowing SV/PV and controller status messages – including alarms. The displaycan also be switched among three colors for more informative monitoring, allowing it to be used to provide an instant visual indication of an alarmcondition.
The controllers are available either with universal inputsfor use with Pt sensors and thermocouples, or with inputs that are compatiblewith standard analog current and voltage signals. The new models have anindication accuracy of±0.3% when used with thermocouples, and ±0.2% for all

other input types.
The sampling period and loop update time of the E5GN hasalso been halved to 250 ms, allowing them to provide a faster response to suitdemanding applications. Other enhancements include the introduction of heaterburnout alarms and event inputs, as well as provision for two independent alarmoutputs.
The controllers incorporate a parameter mask function thatis accessed via Omron’s CX-Thermo support software (Ver. 4.2). This functionallows parameters that are not needed for a particular application to behidden, thereby guarding against setting errors and inadvertent operation. TheCX-Thermo software can also be used as an aid to convenient setting, adjustmentand parameter cloning, creating easy and errorless copies for multiplemachines. CX-Thermo software is available stand-alone (EST2-2C-MV4), or as partof Omron’s CX-One integrated automation software suite.
The E5GN has eight logic registers to perform logicswitching. These work bits can be programmed to perform simple logic operations- with or without time delays – using alarm status or the controller’s digitalinputs. The result can be used to control the operation of the E5GN itself, orone of its Control or Sub outputs.
