2014 NAME award nominations now open
Deadline is June 30 to have your plant recognized for maintenance, operational excellence
Nominations are now open for the 2014 North American Maintenance Excellence (NAME). One of the most prestigious recognitions in the maintenance and reliability function, the NAME Awards are presented to individual plants on the basis of their maintenance departments to provide “capacity assurance for operational excellence” in the areas of organization, work processes, and materials management.
The 2013 NAME winner was the Emergent BioSolutions plant in Lansing, Mich. “They had applied for the award unsuccessfully several years ago, and used that experience to help build their program to the level of excellence it demonstrates today,” NAME officials said in recognizing the 2013 recipient.
The 2014 NAME Award application form is now available. Deadline for applications is June 30. Application for the award can be found at the NAME Website, www.nameaward.com. The North American Maintenance Excellence (NAME) Awards are a program of the Foundation for Industrial Maintenance Excellence.

Annual Salary Survey
After almost a decade of uncertainty, the confidence of plant floor managers is soaring. Even with a number of challenges and while implementing new technologies, there is a renewed sense of optimism among plant managers about their business and their future.
The respondents to the 2014 Plant Engineering Salary Survey come from throughout the U.S. and serve a variety of industries, but they are uniform in their optimism about manufacturing. This year’s survey found 79% consider manufacturing a secure career. That’s up from 75% in 2013 and significantly higher than the 63% figure when Plant Engineering first started asking that question a decade ago.
