Nolan Rome, PE, LEED AP, 34

Associate Principal, ccrd partners, Phoenix

University of Texas-Austin, BS Architectural Engineering

Rome has always been at the forefront of sustainability initiatives; he was the first employee at ccrd partners to take and pass the LEED AP exam in 2001. Afterward, he was instrumental in helping other ccrd employees pursue LEED accreditation. The firm recognized Rome’s dedication and leadership capabilities, and in 2007 he was asked to help start the Phoenix office where he currently serves as office manager and lead mechanical engineer. He has taken part in several ccrd improvement committees, including the Advisory Committee to ccrd partners’ Board of Directors and the Quality Assurance/Quality Control committee. He trains new hires, mentors them, and leads them to become self-sufficient and knowledgeable in their own disciplines. Rome is experienced with central chiller plant replacements and upgrades, especially in sensitive environments like medical facilities. He worked on projects at Rancho Springs Medical Center (Calif.) where existing chillers were replaced with more efficient 1,200-ton machines, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital where an existing central plant was upgraded to 5,000 tons and heat-pump chiller technology was added. These projects were completed in place with only a few hours of service disruption. Rome spoke at the Rocky Mountain Green Conference in April 2010, where he presented three large hospital projects and their sustainability goals. Clients seek him out for his extensive knowledge of California building codes and experience in complex healthcare facilities. Rome has volunteered for CANstruction, a design/build competition for industry professionals and students. He also sits on the board for the Men’s Art Council and helps raise funds for the Phoenix Art Museum. He and his wife are music lovers, and they are passing on this love to their baby boy Chauncey Reid, who has a special bedtime mix of music compiled by his loving family members.
