U.S. lamp demand is expected to rise 2.4% per yr to 6.3 billion units by the year 2001. That projection is according to a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industrial market research firm.

U.S. lamp demand is expected to rise 2.4% per yr to 6.3 billion units by the year 2001. That projection is according to a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industrial market research firm.
Demand has been steadily increasing, according to the survey, from 4950 million units in 1992, jumping 3.3% to 5640 in 1996, with a projected use of 6345 million units in 2001.
Incandescents will remain dominant, with over 80% of the market, but the demand for fluorescent lamps will exhibit the fastest growth, rising 5% annually to 910 million units. Fluorescents are the lamp of choice in many plants, based on their favorable lifetime cost/performance ratios.
Demands for HID and other lamps will also experience gains, due to strong growth in industrial construction expenditures and the accelerating retrofit market.
