Gorbel’s Easy Arm Intelligent Lifting Device has helped a turbine motor overhaul improve their workflow, decrease injuries, and increase their productivity by 25%. What is the Easy Arm? It’s an all-in-one lifting device that integrates a servo-controlled lifting device into the body of an articulating jib. They’re a great addition to any process that involves lifting and placing of heavy loads.

 

 

 

This company uses Easy Arms throughout their facility to aid in lifting the large components that make up the engines they work on.  Before the addition of the Easy Arm, workers were manually lifting the parts, some of which weigh up to 100 lbs. They were experiencing significant lost time back injuries, and the job was extremely physically demanding, especially for the older operators. In one area of the facility, the company installed a free standing Easy Arm at each of the 4 inspection stations. The operators use the Easy Arm to gram the part as it comes down the conveyor, lift it into the work cell, and then move it to a pallet opposite the conveyor after it’s been inspected. No back injuries have been reported since the Easy Arm were installed, and now all parts can be handled and inspected by all operators, without restriction. One of the female operators, who had required three back surgeries in her ten years of employment, was able to return to work with no limitations to her job. “I love this Easy Arm,” she said. "If they didn’t install this machine, I would’ve had to retire by now.”

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September.
