Parker air pressure regulators boost reliability in rail applications
Electro-pneumatic air pressure regulators offer performance at temperatures down to -40°C, meets latest European railway standards
Parker Hannifin introduced a range of electro-pneumatic air pressure regulators reported to provide flexibility, precision and energy savings in rail industry applications, including the control of adaptive suspensions. The EPP3 series has been designed to enhance system performance and reliability, as well as meeting the latest European railway standards, including EN 50155, which govern electronic equipment used on rolling stock.
For example, these electro-pneumatic devices are ideal for controlling the movement of each car on Pendolino tilting trains as they enter curves. In particular, the EPP3 air pressure regulators can be used for the accurate and rapid control of the pneumatic cylinders used to ensure the stable position of the car independently of each set of bogies.
Using an integrated electronic control system with pulse width modulated solenoid valves, the EPP3 regulators control the output pressure proportionally to an analogue electric signal, purportedly achieving ultra high precision by means of an internal feedback with an integrated pressure sensor. Furthermore, an integrated shut off valve ensures the safety of the installation.
In addition, these IP65 rated pressure regulators have been reportedly developed to provide a particularly long and reliable operating life. Indeed, they can withstand use in the most extreme and severe conditions, even with contaminated air, and offer high performance operation at temperatures down to -40°C.

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
