Motion software upgrade analyzes, optimizes motion control systems
The Motion Analyzer 5.000 is part of a set of Rockwell Automation mechatronic design tools intended to provide mechanical, electrical and controls engineers the ability to collaborate to digitally prototype machines. Upgrade includes user interface, Profile Editor, selection assistants.
Rockwell Automation has released an upgraded version of its Motion Analyzer software, Motion Analyzer 5.000. With a workflow redesign and new product additions, Motion Analyzer 5.000 helps machine builders find a faster way to design, develop, and deliver machines. Motion Analyzer software is part of a set of mechatronic design tools used to provide mechanical, electrical and controls engineers the ability to collaborate efficiently to digitally prototype machines. The enhanced mechatronics solution gives machine builders the ability to analyze, optimize and simulate various motion control systems.
A key improvement to this latest version of Motion Analyzer is an updated user interface with a highly intuitive workflow. Designers can now identify the load type and motion profiles prior to selecting motors and drives. The Profile Editor functionality, used to create a motion profile, now includes the ability to switch axes, copy and paste, move profiles and use additional industry segment types. Additionally, Motion Analyzer 5.000 has motor and drive selection assistants that automatically identify which products are compatible and effective for each application.
Motion Analyzer integrates with SolidWorks from Dassault Systèmes allowing users to simulate the physics of a moving system, calculate the torque and inertia, and generate digital prototypes. SolidWorks integration has been expanded with additional functionality including a more advanced interface to validate and analyze data.
Two recently released Allen-Bradley products have been added to the Motion Analyzer software for user selection. The Kinetix 3 Component servo drive and the MP-Series Heavy Duty Electric Cylinder are now included in the selection assistants and the Bill of Materials.
Another major revision includes the ability to register the Motion Analyzer 5.000 software. Registering the software provides the user full functionality of the software. A 30-day trial version of the software is also available if the user does not want to register it. Registration can be completed online or via email.

2012 Salary Survey
In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.
Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
