Hot water circulator wins 2011 AHR Expo Innovation Award

IIT Bell and Gosset has captured top honors in inaugural Plumbing Category

12/07/2010

ITT Bell and Gossett has won the prestigious 2011 AHR Expo Innovation Award in the inaugural Plumbing Category for its ecorcirc hot water circulator. Recognized for its energy-saving features and innovative design, the ecocirc is one of ten products among thousands that will be on display at the world’s largest HVACR exposition to be selected as an Innovation Award winner.  ITT’s achievement will be recognized at the 2011 AHR Expo to be held in Las Vegas January 31-February 2, 2011.

The design allows the ecocirc to use 68 percent less energy than most standard pumps and can reportedly save an average family of four more than 12,000 gallons of water a year by eliminating the need to wait for the water to get hot. Using only 10 watts of power, the equivalent of a small nightlight, the ecocirc can save a homeowner hundreds of dollars in energy costs a year.

Featuring the exclusive ECM (Electronically Commutated Motor) technology and a patented spherical motor design, the ecocirc eliminates the need for a conventional shaft, seal and bearing assembly.  The rotor/impeller is the only moving part in the circulator and it is magnetically balanced on a stationary ceramic bearing inside the pump housing to provide silent, long-lasting operation. Additional features include:

  • Maintenance free, long-lasting operation
  • Seal-less, leak-free
  • Resistant to scale build-up, ensuring optimal flow
  • Self-realigning bearing
  • Self-lubricating and automatically cooled by pump media
  • Resin-encompassed stators eliminate corrosion
  • Energy savings pay back the cost of the pump within months
  • The magnetically centered rotor can tilt to avoid small particles
  • Built-in temperature sensor automatically adjusts frequency and voltage
  • Built-in 24-hour timer
  • Motor is separated from wetted parts by a stainless steel partition
  • Superior starting torque
  • Solar model available
  • Easy to install

“We are delighted to be selected for this prestigious honor,” said Marianne Szczech, Circulator Product Manager at ITT Residential & Commercial Water.  “It reinforces our commitment to produce energy-saving, green products.”  ITT was ranked among the Top U.S. Companies in Newsweek’s 2010 Green Rankings for the General Industries Sector.

Winners of the AHR Innovation Awards were determined by a panel of judges, made up of ASHRAE members, which evaluated the products submitted based on innovation, application, value to the user and market impact. The awards are presented each year to recognize the most innovative HVACR products showcased at the International Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo).  International Exposition Company (IEC), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) jointly sponsor the competition.
