Engineering firm Buro Happold wins big at ACEC New York awards

ACEC New York recognizes achievements of consulting engineering industry with annual awards.

EMPAC in Troy, New YorkThe American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of New York honored Buro Happold North America with four awards for engineering excellence in the categories of Structural Systems; Special Projects; Building/Technology Systems; and Studies, Research, and Consulting.

“Buro Happold is proud to win four awards from ACEC New York. These accolades are acknowledgement of our contribution to the success of complex and sophisticated projects throughout the country, and the value of our work to the future of the engineering profession,” said Craig Schwitter, managing director of Buro Happold North America.

Buro Happold received two diamond awards for Excellence in Structural Systems for the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., and in Special Projects for the Expanding Video Screen for U2’s 360° Tour of 2009.

In the Building/Technology Systems category, Buro Happold received a platinum award for acting as sustainability consultants on the Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Energy Lab in Kamuela, Hawaii.

Buro Happold received a gold award in Research and Consulting for its Lynn University Master Plan in Boca Raton, Fla. Buro Happold created energy and carbon analyses of existing facilities to study future infrastructure changes that would improve performance and reduce cost.

2012 Salary Survey

In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.

Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
