Gold Whistle Intelligent Servo Drive - The Gold Whistle is an Intelligent Digital Servo Drive using the latest technology and offering the highest performance motion and network communication architecture to run Brush & Brushless Rotary and Linear Motors. This is a Control Engineering 2011 Engineers' Choice (EC) nominee.Elmo Motion Control's miniature Gold Whistle digital servo drive has dimensions of just 55 x 46 x 15 mm (2.2-in. x 1.8-in. x 0.6-in.) and it weighs a mere 55 g (1.9 oz), yet if offers up to 1.6 kW of continuous power and 3.2 kW of peak power. Indeed, ultra-compact, high power-density drives are the hallmark of Elmo Motion Control.    Our network-based servo drives support multiple communication options such as the new industry standard of EtherCAT, as well as other important protocols including CANopen, USB and Ethernet.

Among its other features are high bandwidth performance, support for a wide variety of feedback sensors, vector control sinusoidal commutation, as well as advanced filtering, and position and velocity gain scheduling for enhanced dynamic performance.

The drive is PCB-mounted thus it can be integrated almost anywhere within a machine or motion control application, giving engineers a great deal of flexibility.     There are currently four 100 V dc models with the continuous current ranging from 5 A to 20 A. Peak current is double.

The Gold Whistle has six digital inputs, two digital outputs and one analog input. Additionally it has two Safe Torque Off (STO) inputs. As with all Elmo servo drives, there is built-in protection and diagnostics to protect against electrical faults and temperature extremes, etc. A number of Gold Whistle servo drives, together with other Elmo drives, can be easily integrated into a multi-axis motion control application, with Elmo's Gold Maestro network motion controller acting as the hub and supplying the control capabilities.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
