EC: Failsafe ET 200 ISP modular safety I/O for hazardous locations

Network integration – I/O systems: Siemens’ Failsafe ET 200 ISP modular safety I/O offers SIL 3 certification to IEC 61508 and hazardous location rating up to Ex Zone 1. This is a Control Engineering 2012 Engineers’ Choice award winner.

November 18, 2011

The Failsafe ET 200 ISP modular safety I/O is both functional and hazardous location safety certified. All modules can be replaced during operation, even under Ex conditions. Mixed configurations with non-failsafe ET 200iSP modules, such as standard input, output, or relay modules, are also permitted.  The communication of ET 200iSP with the allocated CPU is via the intrinsically safe Profibus. The communication of the failsafe signals via PROFIsafe is implemented over the same cable as for the standard communication.  The new failsafe ET 200iSP components enable the implementation of applications such as ESD (emergency shut down) or fire and gas equipment, without the use of Ex barriers, up to SIL 3. For fire and gas, for example, the failsafe modules provide features such as diagnosis for energize-to-trip or last valid value, which enable cost-optimized solutions.
