ABB's Endura line of analytical transmitters uses ABB’s common component platform. Buttons, menus, and display icons in these new products are very similar to the familiar design of current ABB flow, pressure, or temperature instrumentation. Endura transmitters are easy to configure with no handheld devices or magnets needed for programming. To program, an operator positions a finger over each button through a glass window. ABB says it is the first company to successfully market a 2 wire, 24 V dc explosion proof (Exd) transmitter using capacitive touch technology.

To program, an operator positions a finger over each button through a glass window. ABB says it is the first company to successfully market a 2 wire, 24 V dc explosion proof (Exd) transmitter using capacitive touch technology. The transmitter can be programmed without removing the cover, avoiding any exposure of the internal circuit boards to moisture. Endura APA592 pH / Redox (ORP) transmitters are designed to be compatible across the range of ABB’s existing sensor offerings.
Transmitters are HART-enabled as standard, to provide access to all parameters from the control room, with DTM and EDD platforms supported. Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus communication versions will be launched soon. The transmitter has automatic buffer recognition to speed up calibration, avoiding the need to program the buffer values each time the sensor is calibrated. Wire the sensor, power up the transmitter, and it detects the style of temperature sensor connected; it automatically recognizes PT100, PT1000, and 3K Balco temperature sensors in 2 wire and 3 wire designs.

2012 Salary Survey
In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.
Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
