Ben Hughes, 37

Principal Engineer/Project Manager, Avanceon, Exton, Pa.

BS Electrical Engineering, MS Software Engineering, Penn State University

Ben Hughes is a first generation American. His parents emigrated from the United Kingdom shortly before he was born. Ben and his family have fully embraced American culture, and Ben even holds season tickets to Penn State football games. Growing up, Ben was always interested in science and technology. He later decided to pursue a career in automation because he recognized a reliance on the industry for affordable goods and the 21st century lifestyle. Over the past 15 years, he has worked as an engineering professional. He has worked on control systems for the U.S. Navy, and designed dimmer switches that led to one of the biggest cost savings projects in the company’s history. Ben is a family man and loves to foster their interest in technology as well. He recently led his son’s Cub Scout den in a video game design challenge. The scouts were required to design and build their own game with a technology of their choosing. Ben was able to teach them and demonstrate how to design a game in Microsoft’s Kodu Game Lab.
