Top Plant: Official rules

Program Overview

Purpose

The Plant Engineering Top Plant award recognizes manufacturing plants that achieve outstanding operational results through application of engineering disciplines.

More specifically, Top Plant seeks to:

  • Identify plants that achieve operational excellence
  • Identify best practices in plant management
  • Identify manufacturers who operate safe, productive, and efficient plants that are ready to meet the challenges of an evolving global manufacturing environment. Efficiency is measured both in terms of material and energy efficiency.

Eligibility

All manufacturing or processing facilities are eligible to apply for recognition. Recognition will be given to individual plant sites, not to companies, divisions, or departments.

A plant site receiving "Top Plant" recognition may not reapply the following year.

Confidentiality & Nondisclosure

All applications, data, and evaluation information submitted will remain proprietary and confidential. Plants selected for recognition will be contacted for the release of information and data. Plants not selected for recognition will remain anonymous. Data will be used only in the aggregate and will not be identified with any specific entrant except by code.

Evaluation

Applications for the Plant Engineering Top Plant program will be evaluated by the staff of Plant Engineering magazine and such other knowledgeable people as may be appropriate.

Recognition

Top Plant recipients will be honored by coverage in the December 2014 issue of Plant Engineering magazine and a special presentation during the 2015 Engineering Awards in Manufacturing dinner.
