!Topologies for Wireless Instrumentation
Like the “fieldbus wars,” wireless discussions can create more heat than light, but the potential for wireless capabilities is undeniable. To set the stage for wireless instrumentation, do you know how to get the signal from instrument to control system? Here’s a nuts-and-bolts guide to orchestrate your options for permanently mounted instrumentation.

!Process control instrumentation: Isolator and signal converter basics
In today’s marketplace, we are sometimes fortunate enough to have transmitters with isolated outputs and receiving devices with isolated inputs. However, we often need to insert an isolator in the signal loop between the transmitter and the receiving device. In Part one of this exclusive two-part series Greg Feliks of Moore Industries explains proper basic application of isolators, their characteristics and how the isolator gets its power.

!Cisco, Rockwell Automation release initial collaborative resources
Collaborative effort simplifies integration of plant floor and corporate networks to improve the flow and security of production information.

  !Emerson acquires DMI
Emerson has acquired DMI, Inc. The acquisition includes all DMI technologies, applications, services and employees.

!Process control instrumentation: Advanced applications for isolators and signal converters
Isolators can be used for many applications in process control beyond just eliminating ground loops and conditioning signals. In Part 2 of this exclusive two-part series, Greg Feliks of Moore Industries presents a selection of advanced applications for isolators and signal converters.

  !Honeywell acquires Enraf
Another trans-Atlantic process industry merger is in the works with Honeywell’s agreement to purchase Enraf Holdings B.V. for $260 million. Enraf is based in Delft, Netherlands, and has six groups all centering on instrumentation and control products for oil and gas producers and transporters.

  Products
  :Isolated 32-channel analog input card
The isolated analog card for the PCI bus has 32 channels and 12-bit resolution. With isolated circuits, the high-speed analog card protects sensitive measurement circuitry from interference currents or voltages.

  :Stepper Drives with graphical interface
Stepper drives deliver 24-80 Vdc with an output current of up to 10 A peak. The drives are designed to protect against overvoltage, undervoltage, overtemp and external output shorts.

:Video interface controller for LCD monitor applications
The high-integration interface controller is designed to address a broad range of TFT LCD monitor applications, providing a wide range of inputs, features and LCD panel support to address market needs. The controller’s flexible port architecture provides physical inputs for DVI, VGA, S-Video and composite video, along with a wide range of video modes.

Class Zero
Process manufacturers, their suppliers and federal agencies are always looking for the tightest safeguards to maintain the balance between safety and productivity. The use of food-grade lubricants is one solution, but eliminating oil from the process is an even higher goal.

The air compressor industry is meeting international testing requirements to eliminate any oil contamination in the process industries – not just food, but petrochemical, semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing as well. Meeting the Class Zero designation from testing agency TUV is an important step in assuring non contamination in these critical manufacturing processes. Register here.
