2000 Product of the Year Winners

The 46 winners in the 2000 "Product of the Year" contest combine necessity, technology, and simple ideas. These concepts, teamed with innovation, embody the winners in this year's contest. In our November 2000 issue, we presented the 150 finalists in this competition, and asked our readers to select the products that they found to be most useful and innovative. The Grand Award, pictured below, was the overall choice for best new product of 2000. Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners in each of our 15 product categories are listed on the following pages. Awards were presented March 5, 2001, at a black-tie reception during the National Plant Engineering Show in Chicago. Handheld detector checks motor rotation
Detector identifies rotation direction of 60-Hz ac motors quickly and safely. It uses a microprocessor and circuitry capable of sensing the magnetic field of an energized motor and identifies its direction of rotation. The light emitting diode display indicates rotation direction. This handheld unit uses a 9-V battery.
