Cars, not jobs, go overseas

Detroit's Big Three plants are headed overseas--with cars, and not jobs, this time. The auto makers are planning sizeable exports of U.S.-made vehicles to markets around the world.


General Motors Corp., for example, is looking to export vehicles made in the U.S.A. to Europe, China, and Latin America markets, company executives confirmed. Chrylser LLC, spurred primarily  by exchange rates, has already started shifting production from Europe to the United States to take advantage of lower costs and available plant capacity. Ford Motor Co. is considering ramping up exports if it can bring labor costs down.
