The 'Summer of Webcasts’ covers harmonics, maintenance, arc flash

By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 6/15/2007

Plant Engineering’s “Summer of Webcasts” series begins June 28 with the first of three Webcasts covering such crucial plant-floor issues as harmonics and power quality, maintenance and another in a series of reports on arc flash.

Representatives from Square D and Eaton will discuss power quality in a Webcast titled, “Understanding Harmonics,” on Thursday, June 28 at 1 p.m. CDT. Harmonics can cause unnecessary heating in all current carrying components in a plant’s electrical distribution system. Minimizing harmonics is beneficial for plant equipment, but it can also lower energy bills.

Panelists will discuss such issues as the nature and sources of harmonics, strategies to minimize harmonics and what the benefits are in mitigating them.

Maintenance is seen as a crucial part of any plant floor strategy, but it is usually seen as a cost. Representatives from UNICCO and Cargill will discuss “Maintenance as an ROI Driver” in a Webcast on Thursday, July 19 at 1 p.m. CDT.

Panelists will review how to measure where the costs are in your maintenance program, the steps to take to develop a plan to measure and analyze the costs of maintenance, the advantages of working on a plan and places to turn to for help in developing a plan.

Arc flash continues to be a major safety issue in manufacturing, yet more education is needed on the subject. This Webcast brings together a 'dream team’ of arc flash experts to discuss the issues and take questions from Plant Engineering readers in a live town-hall meeting on the subject of arc flash. This special event will be Thursday, July 26 at 1 p.m. CDT.

Registration for all three Webcasts are now available at www.PlantEngineering.com by clicking on the 'Webcasts’ tab on the home page. Visitors can also review past Webcasts and purchase DVDs of previous Webcasts.
