Schneider, Citect release integrated software

Staff -- Plant Engineering, 5/15/2007

Since its acquisition of Citect Pty Ltd a year ago, Schneider Electric has begun integrating Citect’s automation offerings with the Telemecanique and Modicon brands. The most recent integrated introduction is Vijeo Citect supervision software. The HMI/SCADA software is to be unified in Schneider-preferred architectures. Schneider, like many of its competitors, acquired Citect for its advanced SCADA and MES technology to complement its core PLC and automation business.

The software is designed to work with stand-alone control stations as well as redundant supervision systems. Since its architecture is scalable, users can develop their system and resize it without having to modify hardware or software.

Multiple processors enable the software to automatically create separate components across multiple CPUs. Its Runtime Manager provides visibility and control over each component process, allowing each one to be restarted individually. If any of the components stop for any reason, they will automatically restart.

The software uses OFS – Schneider’s OPC Factory Server – to handle advanced Telemecanique PLC-specific functions. It also provides Unity FastLinx for the dynamic management of Unity Pro software links, and synchronization of Vijeo Citect and Unity Pro databases.
