Research sheds light on emerging technologies

Money is tight in manufacturing, but spending on emerging technology is on the rise. If you need to make that point to your corner office, here’s some new research on the market that may help.
AMR Research released a report showing that enterprise resource planning spending will jump 12.3% in 2007. “The survey found that technology buyers understand the need to invest in better information systems, and in most markets they have the capital to do so,” a press release on the report noted.

Two new reports from ARC Advisory Group show continuing growth in the human-machine interface and distributive control systems markets
The HMI software market is expected to grow from $650 million in 2005 to more than $1 billion by 2010. The HMI software services market is expected to grow faster than the total HMI software market over the next five years. “The last two years have been witness to growth rates near 20%. The corresponding effect on supplier’s market shares has been equally dramatic,” said ARC analyst Stefan Surpitski, the principal author of the report, which can be found at www.arcweb.com/res/hmi.
The DCS market experienced the strongest growth in a decade between 2004 and 2005, increasing at a rate of close to 9%. This strong growth is expected to continue through 2010, with the global market increasing at an average annual rate of almost 7%.
