Plant Engineering names Jack Smith managing editor

By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 1/1/2007

Effective with the January issue, Jack Smith has been named managing editor of Plant Engineering magazine. Smith has been the magazine’s senior editor for the past six years.

“The respect Jack has from his peers and contacts in the industry is a testimony to his hard work and industry knowledge,” said Jim Langhenry, publisher of Plant Engineering. “He has been an invaluable part of the evolution of Plant Engineering in the last two years, and with this new opportunity, we are confident the magazine and its related electronic offerings will continue to develop and grow.”

Smith will assist Plant Engineering editor Bob Vavra in expanding the magazine’s online and electronic offering to readers. Smith will also manage the print content for Plant Engineering and continue to develop AppliedAutomation, Plant Engineering’s quarterly supplement on automation management and implementation strategies in industry.

Before his career in publishing, Smith was an engineering technician for Sundstrand Aviation in Rockford, IL, and spent more than 15 years as an engineering technician. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in journalism, and worked for a variety of trade and specialty publishers before joining Plant Engineering in 2000.
