Universal PCI card
By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 12/1/2006
The PCI-1625U is an eight-port intelligent RS-232 universal PCI communication card. It is virtually a self-contained computer with an onboard DSP processor that can take over the processing load from the host PC. The PCI-1625U has 1 MB of SRAM that can store serial data and reduce host CPU loading. When the card initializes, it downloads the driver software into its onboard DSP. A universal PCI connector, which is compatible with both the 3.3-V PCI bus and traditional 5-V PCI bus, is standard, as is ICOM Tools, a utility program that tests PCI card performance by analyzing port status. The menu commands and toolbar buttons of ICOM Tools act as a PC-based data scope that allows the user to set a trigger condition, capture communications data and monitor signal status. The PCI-1625U is designed for industrial applications where a PC needs to communicate with terminals, modems or other instruments. Up to four PCI-1625U cards can be installed for a total of 32 ports in PCI bus-based PCs.
