ASME names Zamrik president

Sam Y. Zamrik, a technical consultant and professor emeritus of engineering mechanics at Penn State was named president-elect of ASME during the 2006 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress in Chicago. His one-year term as president begins in June, 2007.

A member of ASME for more than 34 years, Zamrik is a society fellow and served as a member of the board of governors from 2002 to 2005. His other service positions include a stint as vice president of materials and structures from 1999 to 2002, and he served on the board of professional development from 1995 to 2001.

Zamrik has also served on or chaired a number of other boards or divisions, was the editor of the ASME Journal of Pressure Vessels Technology from 1993 to 2005 and has published more than 180 technical papers and reports on fatigue analysis, life prediction, biaxial loading and thermal analysis.
