Congress honors ASME for 125 years of service

Staff -- Plant Engineering, 5/1/2005

A Congressional resolution in March congratulated the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) on its 125th anniversary. Introduced by Sen. John Sununu (R-NH), himself a mechanical engineer, the resolution describes ASME as "one of the premier professional organizations focused on technical, educational and research issues of the engineering community."

"ASME is proud to be at the forefront of engineering and scientific innovation. Today, we're honored by the congressional recognition given to ASME and its members for 125 years of setting the standard in engineering achievement, " said Harry Armen, president of ASME.

The House resolution was introduced by House Science Committee Chairman Sherwood Boehlert, R-NY, and co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of seven of his House colleagues.

"On behalf of the 109th Congress, I warmly congratulate ASME for 125 years of service to the United States. I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to president Harry Armen and the members of ASME for their strong leadership and I look forward to future ASME achievement," said Boehlert.
