Solutions

Oil glows

  • Problem: Lubricating oil is leaking from a machine. It is difficult to see where the leak is originating. What can be done to find the leak?
  • Solution: Clean the machine of all residual oil. Use a fluorescent black light to illuminate the area. The oil will glow purple and the leak can then be easily found.

Screw persuasion

  • Problem: Flat head, socket head cap screws can be difficult to remove. Is there a way to remove them without stripping threads or rounding out the socket hole?
  • Solution: Use a combination of a center punch, allen wrench, and hammer. While applying torque with the wrench, strike the head of the screw with the center punch and hammer to free the screw.

Rag container

  • Problem: Safely discarding oil-soaked rags, if there is no dedicated container, can be a problem. How can these rags be discarded without causing a problem?
  • Solution: Put the rags in a closeable plastic bag. Fill the bag with enough water to thoroughly soak the rags. Close the bag and safely discard the rags.
