Returns on investment

Richard L. Dunn Editor -- Plant Engineering, 9/1/2002

Everywhere the complaint is the same: "I don't have time." Time to think, time to learn, time to relax, time to enjoy, time to read.

We may not be able help you much with the rest of them, but we can help with the last — time to read. And with this issue, we're doing just that.

Our redesign may not make national news like the Wall Street Journal, but it's every bit as important to you, our readers. It's designed to save you time, to give you maximum return on your reading investment.

We've gone through every aspect of the magazine to retain the best of the old, introduce improvements where we can, and employ techniques intended to make your reading easier and faster.

Here are some of the changes you'll notice:

  • The cover serves as a brief table of contents. All feature articles are listed on the left for easy reference when the magazine is stored in a stack or upright on a shelf. Page numbers are provided to get you quickly to the features of highest interest to you.
  • The table of contents inside is on a right-hand page, making it easy to find and read. Feature articles are on the right for fast reference.
  • Monthly columns are in the front of the magazine — our "managerial" section, if you will. Technical feature articles are in the middle, and news about products, literature, events, and other goings-on are toward the back.
  • Our new "Update" section is arranged by topic, so all the latest update information on a specific topic appears together. Want to get updated on electrical information? It's all in the "Electrical" section of "Update."
  • "Solutions," one of our most popular pages, is now easily found on the last editorial page of the magazine.
  • Our new look is designed with your reading priorities in mind. The simple, clean appearance aids readability. Numerous subheads, sidebars, and other devices help you get directly to information of most interest in the shortest time.

We at PLANT ENGINEERING are honored whenever you choose to invest your time by reading our magazine. That's why you won't find fluff and puff in our pages. That's why every article is carefully edited to meet your information needs. And that's why we never cease in our efforts to provide you the maximum return for your reading investment.

We'd like to know whether or not our new design provides a better return on your reading investment.
