Richard L. Dunn, Editor, Plant Engineering -- Plant Engineering, 1/1/2002
By Richard L. Dunn, Editor, Plant EngineeringSalaries for plant engineers appear to mirror the economy in general. Average salaries have increased 6.4% since our last survey a little more than two years ago. The current overall average salary for plant engineers stands at $70,905, compared with $66,634 in 1999. And there are no surprises in the various demographic breakdowns.
Below we present some highlights from our latest exclusive salary survey. All data shown are averages for the various breakdowns in the graphs and represent salaries only. Cash bonuses or other compensation are excluded from these data.
The Plant Engineering Salary Survey was conducted for Plant Engineering magazine by the compensation consulting firm Abbott, Langer & Associates. Industrial plant engineers were contacted by e-mail in late November and asked to participate in the survey by going to a special web site to complete the questionnaire. A total of 1,266 completed forms were used in the tabulation. The sample is comparable to those of previous surveys (1993, 1994, 1996, and 1999).
