A little spin

Every year, we commit a substantial amount of editorial space to coverage of the National Plant Engineering & Management Show and Conference. There are a number of reasons why we do this. But at the top of the list is our commitment to you, our readers.

While we must admit to some business ties with the show producers (Plant Engineering and National Manufacturing Week are both owned by Reed Elsevier Inc.), our show coverage is entirely an editorial decision that is discussed at length during our annual planning. And every year, we come to the same conclusion: Our readers deserve to be informed about the largest single event dedicated to industrial plant engineering and maintenance.

Next month, we will preview many of the products at the show to be held March 13-16 in Chicago. But there are several events that I would especially like to draw your attention to.

- "Maintenance Excellence for the Next Millennium," Tuesday, 1:30-3:00 p.m. This free session will introduce you to some of the concepts and techniques that have helped plants earn the North American Maintenance Excellence Award.

- "The North American Maintenance Excellence (NAME) Awards," Wednesday, 4:15-5:15 p.m., in the Global Manufacturing Solutions Theater in the South Hall. Members of the NAME Awards board of directors will explain the awards program and how you can benefit from entering.

- "The Supply Chain: A Chief Editors' Perspective," Monday, 12:15-1:15 p.m. in the Global Manufacturing Solutions Theater in the South Hall. Chief editors from the Cahners Supply Chain Group of magazines give their insights on key trends impacting North American manufacturers.

- "Supply Chain Management in the New Economy," Monday, 9:00-9:45 a.m. Dow Bauknight, Global Manufacturing Partner, Andersen Consulting Supply Chain Management, will speak.

- "Preparing for your future in Facilities Engineering," Monday, 1:30-3:00 p.m. Richard Greene, COO of the Association for Facilities Engineering, will discuss how to achieve recognition and enhance your career opportunities.
