Chiseling rusted bolts

Problem: Cutting off rusted bolts or cover screws is usually difficult. The positioning is such that a cold chisel is the most feasible tool to accomplish this task. However, it is often difficult to use the tool without damaging the cover or part. Is there a way?

Solution: To make this job safer and easier, regrind the cold chisel from the double edge configuration to a single edge, such as found on a wood chisel. Put a very light taper on the flat back at the edge. Use the chisel by placing the flat back against the cover or part, letting the edge angle lift the head away from the part. Putting a slight inward pressure on the shank prevents the chisel from digging in and marking the part or cover.
