Maintenance Tips & Tricks

By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 9/1/1999

Time-conserving, money-saving, aggravation-avoiding ideas for solving typical maintenance problems should be shared with others in the plant engineering profession. The exchange of these ideas is the basis for this 11th annual "Tips & Tricks" article.

Here's the "fine print" on the selection of these tips and the "Maintenance Tip of the Year."

Maintenance tips received at any time are evaluated for usefulness to our readers.

If a tip is accepted for publication, the sender receives $35.

Most tips are published in our monthly "Simple Solutions" department. Twenty tips deemed especially useful and received by our contest deadline (this year June 11) are published in this "Tips & Tricks" feature article.

Each entry in this article is marked with a reader service number, allowing readers to vote on a special ballot for the top five tips.

Winners will be announced in a future issue. The highest vote getter will reward the submitter with $1000. The two runners-up will each receive $250.

Please return your ballot by October 29, 1999.

In all cases, even if not specifically mentioned in the writeups, you should verify that a tip you are considering does not violate any relevant code, standard, or practice. Always use the appropriate safety equipment and procedures when applying the maintenance tips.
