Workers must take responsibility

I was very disappointed with Plant Engineer Ben Delman's decision to "change the suspension to a reprimand" (Human Side, "Make allowance for anxiety activators, PE, July 1999, p 14).

Walking off of a high priority job without a word simply because Haber could not control himself and behave in a professional manner is inexcusable. It shows a lack of concern not only for the well being of the company, but worse for the future welfare of his family.

Changing the suspension to a reprimand shows the leaning of society today toward no accountability for one's own actions and encourages future similar behavior.

Until we hold all people accountable for their actions, we can hold no one accountable for their actions. This holds true in the workplace, as well as society at large. -- Brian Blair, Manufacturing Engineer, Southwire Co., Carrollton, GA
