Operating costs see slight jump

By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 9/1/1998

According to the Plant Engineering Cost Index (PECI), plant operating costs increased by a mere 0.1% in July to 149.7, with the slight increase stemming from the facilities side of the index. The PECI has risen 1.5% above year-ago (July 1997) levels. The July increase marked the fifth increase out of the last six months, with June 1998 being the exception when the PECI dropped by 0.1%. Among the biggest changes in the facilities index were lumber, down 10.3%, and copper-based alloy rod, down 18.8%.
