Costs decrease in June

By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 8/1/1998

The Plant Engineering Cost Index (PECI) decreased by 0.2% in June, although there was some movement within each subdivision. Among the components in the facilities index with significant price changes from May to June were copper-based alloy rods, down 7.4% in June; and lumber prices fell by 4% in June and 11.3% below year-earlier prices. The equipment cost index has risen 1.6% from year-ago levels, barely indicating the presence of inflation.
