Shipments drop, but overall still strong

Shipments in the overall manufacturing industry dropped 0.4% from April to May to $335.5 million, but still appear strong compared to year-earlier levels. During the 12-mo period from June 1997 to May 1998, shipments grew by 5.1% over the previous 12-mo period. Shipments of durable goods have endured positive growth since March 1992, and accomplished 7.5% growth over the last year.
