PECI enjoys another stable month

By Staff -- Plant Engineering, 7/1/1998

The Plant Engineering Cost Index (PECI) remained unchanged from April to May. The stability of the price index reveals that plant engineering costs, on average, are well under control, lingering around the 149 mark since October 1997. The most notable monthly change was lumber, with prices falling 2.4% in May, and dropping 10.1% from year-earlier prices. Other products with significant decreases are copper-based alloy rod (down 11.5%), nonferrous metals (down 9.5%), and lubricants (down 6.7 %).
